Despite being at a moderate altitude of 12,200 feet, Kuari Pass offers a variety of unmatched views. One can frame the spectacular scenic beauty of the Nanda Ghunti and Chaukhamba all the way along the trail from Ghunni to Jhinjhi, which travels across an open meadow and offers breathtaking views of some of the Himalayan jewels.

 

 

What is the best time to visit- The best time to visit the Kuari Pass is during summer from April to Mid-June when the climate is favorable, the temperatures ranging from 19-29 0C. The trek is also great for winters when you find the snow-capped mountains throughout the trek, the temperature ranges from -8 to 12 0C.

 

How to reach- Kuari Pass can be reached either from Dehradun or Rishikesh. You can take a bus from Delhi direct to Dehradun or Rishikesh and it will take around 5-6 hours by road. You can also prefer to take a flight directly from Delhi to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. Rail connectivity is also a good option to reach Dehradun or Rishikesh as both the cities have direct trains from the capital. Once you reach Dehradun or Rishikesh, our representative will pick you up and transfer you using a taxi.

 

Level of difficulty – Easy to Moderate The Kuari Pass trek is considered to be easy to moderate. The trek’s highest altitude is 12,500 feet above sea level. As a result, it is perfect for beginners and trekkers who want to avoid a steep or difficult trek.

 

 

Fitness tips before the trek-

 

Getting ready for a trek is exciting, however, it needs you to be in the best fitness possible. It’s best to be in shape before beginning a tour. So, how to achieve your fitness goals?

 

    1. Walking is a great way to get started with your fitness routine. Start a brisk walk every day, for two weeks prior to the trek.
    2. Strengthening your core muscles is very essential as it will help you to cover long distances, so it’s always better to increase your leg workouts.
    3. Make planks a part of your fitness regimen. It boosts the core muscles of the abdomen.
    4. Squats are an effective exercise for maintaining strong leg muscles, which is crucial if you are planning a trek.

      Day 1: Rishikesh to Joshimath

       

      The journey begins with an early morning departure from Rishikesh, taking you through the scenic terrain of Uttarakhand towards the town of Joshimath. Spanning approximately 250 Kms, the drive takes about 10 hours, offering opportunities to soak in the breathtaking views along the way. On the route, you will travel through the picturesque towns of Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Karnaprayag, where the Ganges and its tributaries carve their way through the rugged mountains, creating stunning natural landscapes. As the road climbs higher into the mountains, the air becomes crisp, and the scenery transforms into lush forests and snow-capped peaks, heralding your arrival in Joshimath. It is located at an altitude of over 6,000 feet, and welcomes you with its serene ambience, ancient temples, and warm hospitality, marking the beginning of your adventure.

       

      Day 2: Joshimath to Karchi to Akhorgetta

       

      Embark on the day’s journey with a 12 Km drive from Joshimath to Karchi, followed by a scenic 4 Km trek to Akhorgetta, totalling approximately 4 hours of travel. The drive offers panoramic views of the Himalayan landscape, with towering peaks and lush valleys unfolding before your eyes. Along the way, pass through quaint villages adorned with traditional wooden houses and terraced fields, where locals go about their daily routines with a sense of quiet contentment. Arriving in Karchi, you’ll commence your trek towards Akhorgetta, traversing verdant meadows and dense forests teeming with vibrant flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for native bird species and elusive wildlife as you ascend gently through the pristine wilderness. Upon reaching Akhorgetta, set up camp amidst the tranquil surroundings, with the crisp mountain air invigorating your senses and the majestic peaks towering overhead, promising a night of peaceful solitude under the starlit sky.

       

      Day 3: Akhorgetta to Khullara

       

      Today’s trek takes you on a gentle ascent from Akhorgetta to Khullara, covering approximately 3 Kms over 4 hours. The trail meanders through alpine meadows adorned with colourful wildflowers, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including the majestic Nanda Devi. As you hike through the pristine wilderness, listen to the melodic chirping of birds and the rustle of leaves in the breeze, immersing yourself in the tranquillity of nature. Along the way, you may encounter grazing herds of sheep tended by local shepherds, providing a glimpse into traditional mountain life. Arriving in Khullara, you will be greeted by the sight of towering mountains reflected in crystal-clear streams, with the pristine beauty of the landscape inviting you to linger and savour the moment. Settle into your campsite amidst the serene surroundings, enjoying a well-deserved rest and rejuvenation after a day of trekking through the pristine wilderness.

       

      Day 4: Khullara to Kuari Pass to Khullara

       

      Prepare for a challenging yet exhilarating day of trekking as you ascend from Khullara to the iconic Kuari Pass and back, covering approximately 7 Kms over 8 hours. The trail winds through rugged terrain and snowfields, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks, including the towering summits of Kamet, Trishul, and Nanda Devi. As you hike to the pass, immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Himalayan landscape, with every step revealing a new vista of snow-capped peaks and alpine meadows stretching as far as the eye can see. Upon reaching Kuari Pass, stand in awe of the breathtaking panoramic views that unfold before you, with the vast expanse of the Himalayas stretching out in all directions.       Day 5: Khullara to Joshimath via Karchi

Arriving in Karchi, board a vehicle for the 12 Km drive back to Joshimath, enjoying the scenic vistas of the Himalayas one last time.       Day 6: Joshimath to Rishikesh

       

      As your expedition draws to a close, embark on the scenic drive back to Rishikesh, retracing the route that brought you to the mountains. The 250 Km journey unfolds over approximately 10 hours, offering ample time to savour the memories of your trekking adventure and bid farewell to the majestic Himalayas.
